Horsham District Local Development Framework: Leading Change in Partnership to 2026 and Beyond

Horsham District Council is currently in the process of reviewing its Core Strategy. This document establishes the framework for future planning in the District, including how it is intended to meet the Governments requirements for redevelopment. This review is necessary to take account of the latest requirements of the South East Plan, which was adopted earlier this year. The first stage in this process is the preparation of a Core Strategy Review Consultation Document called ‘Leading Change in Partnership to 2026 and Beyond’.

Hard copies of the Consultation Document, together with supporting documentation such as the Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report, are available to view at Horsham District Council Offices, local Libraries and through all Parish Council Offices. The documents are also available to view and download free of charge from our dedicated LDF website at www.horshamdistrictldf.info. The website will also include all relevant updates and documents as the review process progresses.

The information and ideas contained in the Consultation Document are for consultation at this stage. They are not final planning decisions. We welcome your views on the document. The consultation period starts on 4th September for a six week period until 16th October. Please ensure that your comments have been submitted by 4.20pm on that day.

Your comments, together with further technical work, will influence the preparation of the Core Strategy Review and are therefore important in planning the future of our District. The next stage of the review process, the ‘Preferred Strategy’ is likely to be published in Spring 2010 when there will be another opportunity to make comments.

You may comment on the Consultation Document electronically, and we would encourage all those who can, to use the representation package available on our website. If preferred, a comments form can be used and sent to: Strategic Planning Team, Park North, North Street, Horsham, RH12 1RL. All comments will be made publicly available and will be viewable on our website.

Firefighters seek your views on safety plan

You can have your say on West Sussex County Council Fire and Rescue Service’s safety plans for the next 12 months at two public meetings it is holding.

They are being held at:

Worthing: The Gordon Room, Worthing Town Hall, Chapel Road, on Wednesday June 25 between 6pm-8pm.

Shoreham-by-Sea: The Council Room, the Civic Centre, Ham Road, on Tuesday July 1 between 5.30 and 7.30pm.
Peter Evans, County Council Cabinet Member for Public Protection, said: “One of the Service’s key aims is to build on its ongoing commitment to prevention, which has already led to significant successes in a number of areas.”

The Fire and Rescue Service’s plan includes:

· Proposals for new response standards to incidents, based on risk to life rather than property.
· Targeting high-risk areas with home fire safety checks and fitting of smoke detectors.
· Forging links with ‘hard to reach’ communities in West Sussex, such as migrant workers, ensuring they receive the education and safety information to make those communities safer.
· Continuing the hard-hitting Safe Drive Stay Alive campaign, which is aimed at young drivers and was seen last year by 10,000 students.
· Giving ongoing priority to further reduce arson.
· Stepping up programmes aimed at young people.

Peter added: “I hope as many people as possible will attend these meetings, because the views of residents are important. They will ensure our firefighters deliver a service in a way that meets the needs of all of the community.”

Proposed New Car Park Layout
Rudgwick Village Hall, Bucks Green

Rudgwick Parish Council are proposing a change to the car park layout to the front of the village hall. The reason for the proposed change is
  • to allow safe access to the hall for all persons parking in this car park
  • to act as a means of slowing traffic passing through the car park
  • provide additional spaces
  • route heavier traffic to a section which can be constructed to allow for heavier traffic without the need for the entire area to be suitable for such traffic
  • to facilitate a means of closing the car park (if needed) without interupting through traffic

Whilst we fully understand that these alterations may seem, at first, un-workable, we would like people to give due consideration to this proposal before making a final judgment. As a result of this, we propose to re-mark the car park for a trial period. This trial period is likely to occur over the months of August and September 2009.

A map of the proposed layout can be found in the download section of campaigns and consultations or click the link to the right of the screen.

Any comments regarding this, please e-mail to pwtanner@aol.com
